Rice Krispies

I love me my breakfast food, can you tell? But Rice Krispies is less about breakfast and more about the signature "Snap! Crackle! Pop!" that has been associated with the cereal since the 1920s. Lots of us "bendies" (people with hypermobility syndromes) have noisy joints that snap and pop and, yes, even crackle.

I went to the chiropractor today and, as usual, took my 5yo along.  The chiropractor was adjusting my back and several vertebrae popped audibly and I asked my daughter if she heard it. I then called myself a human bowl of Rice Krispies.  I don't just "Snap! Crackle! Pop!" at the chiropractor - I do plenty of it at random at home, too. Like the time I sneezed and dislocated a rib (which deserves it's own blog post). Or how my hips pop all the time. Ooo, and my big toes.

I love going to the chiropractor, y'all. Part of the problem with hypermobile joints is that they don't stay aligned where they belong. I subluxate joints at the drop of a hat. I'm fortunate in that other than said rib, I've never dislocated anything.

Going to the chiropractor is awesome for me because he puts everything back where it belongs. My chiro was adjusting my neck today and commented that he had forgotten how flexible my neck was (I missed my appointments last month). He was adjusting me and moved me to the point where most people adjust and nothing happened. He's made similar comments about adjusting my shoulders.

Some things I can tell when they're subluxated, like my shoulders. When they're out, they click andownload "crackle" and hurt to move in certain ways. When my big toes are out, my whole foot feels cramped. My toes frequently go out of alignment when swimming  (no idea why - maybe it's my tendency to walk on tiptoe in the pool?). I get a similar tension in my hips. Fortunately, I can adjust my own toes and can often pop my hips to relieve that discomfort.

Going to the chiropractor really helps with the pinched nerve I get in my neck. He also does ultrasound treatments to help with the trigger points caused by my fibromyalgia.  Being adjusted helps the degenerative disc disease in my back not flare up also.

I first went to see a chiropractor in 2006 when I was getting headaches. Doctors could find no cause and the medications they prescribed for migraines weren't working. The parents of a good friend of mine encouraged me to see a chiropractor. Having my JAW out of alignment was causing headaches!

I have really seen the befit of chiropractic adjustment for my own combination of medical needs. I was elated when my insurance started covering chiropractic. As a whole, I KNOW it cuts down on my other medical expenses!

Have you tried chiropractic care for your medical needs? Any other bendies out there with a chiroprac
